The idea of the “lifestyle” is really two things. One is the concept of “health” and the other is the concept of “life” as a whole. For me, the “health” part encompasses how I look, feel, and perform my daily activities. It is a part that I am very conscious of whether I am doing that properly or not.
What I’ve found is that, even though you can take any of the above activities and perform them at any time, you don’t necessarily have to. I have friends who are still working out, and some who are doing so while they enjoy the company of their friends. It’s nice to know that these things are important.
I think there is a lot of confusion about what a healthy lifestyle (HS) is. It can be a very specific set of conditions which can include diet, exercise, sleep, and so on. HS is usually presented as a whole person lifestyle and is often compared to the “lifestyle” of a “thriving” athlete. This may be true with athletes, but I think HS should be understood as something much broader.
HS is not necessarily about body weight. There are a lot of unhealthy behaviors that people do which can be grouped under the umbrella of HS. The most common of which are eating a lot of junk foods, drinking too much alcohol, eating a lot of fast food, and using drugs. But there are also many other unhealthy behaviors that are seen as part of HS and which can be grouped under other terms too.
Eating junk food, drinking beer, and using drugs are not “HS”. I don’t think people who follow HS should be judged for these behaviors, but it’s important to note that people who don’t follow HS do these behaviors. For example, people who engage in HS activities (such as drinking, smoking, and taking drugs) are not necessarily bad people. They just have a different way of looking at the world.
I like to think that the key to healthy living is in the pursuit of health. Whether you’re following a HS diet, or just engaging in physical activity, its good to be on the look out for signs that your lifestyle is healthy. It can be scary to think you are no longer healthy, but if you’re not feeling well just get some physical activity in and see how you do.
It takes up to 20,000 steps to burn one calorie, so that’s a lot more than the total amount of calories you’re taking in for the day.
For the last couple of years I have been a member of the Health-Hates-Yourself-Lifestyle club and have been quite pleased with the results. For one thing, I am able to eat a healthy diet without getting too fat. I have lost weight and kept it off as well. For another thing, I can get up and move around much more easily than I used to.
In the end, though, it’s a lifestyle that I am quite happy to live. I just wish that I could get up every day and feel like I was really moving in the right direction. At least that part of the day could be as interesting as the day I wake up.
I know, I know. This is the part where you say “but it’s in the paper, you know.” That’s right. It’s in the paper, and that’s all I’m saying. And I’m sorry, but you’re not going to find it in the paper.
