We all have to start somewhere. You have to find your passion and get it out of the way.
This reminds me of a friend of mine who is a software engineer at a big tech company and he was always telling us about all the cool projects he’s going to work on while he’s in college. He’s now applying for jobs at places like Google, Microsoft, and Facebook. I think it’s about time all of us stopped telling each other how to do our jobs, because we’re not all getting it.
I think that’s the most fun of all. Sure, there are always a few people who get it and think, “Oh, this is a really cool thing and I’d really like to do it.” But there are also lots of people who aren’t sure if they get it, and who constantly tell their friends about their hopes and dreams but who never end up doing them.
Yes, its true, as a general rule, it is easier to get a job at a company you are not familiar with than it is to get a job at a company you are very familiar with. The thing to realize is that your career is not limited to your location. And as a result, you can have a job at a place that you are very familiar with and not get it.
The problem is that you don’t know what you’re doing. If you’re an IT consultant, you can certainly get a job at one of the large IT companies. But you don’t know what you’re doing, and in the end, you may have to quit your job in order to get a job at a company you know nothing about.
But then again, if you are a musician, you might be able to break into a major record company. Thats how many people end up in our “no-job” category.
For a few years now we (including myself) have been blogging about the lifestyle we lead. We find ourselves on a spectrum between living a very typical life and a very extreme lifestyle. The typical lifestyle is a day-to-day life where we live in our own little bubble. We all have our own office, our own personal email account, and we are constantly updating our personal blog.
When we do this, we can see the difference between our lifestyle and the real world. Sure we might be getting an occasional paycheck, but we’re not doing it in a really meaningful way. We’re still working. We’re still doing the same things we always do. We’re still having dinner with friends. We’re still going to work.
Sure, we can see the difference between how we live and the real world, but when we’re on it, it shows us things that are more complicated, more interesting, or simply more interesting. Like our personal blog. Or our email account. Or our office. Or how we live our day to day lives. We can see the difference between our lifestyle and the real world because we are living it in our own little bubble.
A bubble is a sort of artificial environment created for a specific purpose. Just as humans create bubbles for their own purposes, so do other living things. Our purpose as humans is to live in a bubble with others, to live in a world that we created ourselves and to maintain it. The same thing goes for animals.
